Kirkstone House School

Curriculum and 11+ success

Pupils in our Junior School follow a broad and balanced curriculum which includes:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • French
  • Geography
  • History
  • Religious Studies
  • Forest School
  • Art
  • ICT
  • Drama
  • Music
  • PE
  • Cookery
  • Social and Health Education
  • Social Skills

Pupils are taught some subjects by their class teacher, but for some subjects they benefit by being taught by Senior School subject specialists.

The Junior School has its own SENCO and learning support is available within the classroom and on a one to one basis.

We do not take SATs but pupil progress is tracked through our own tracking system which measures progress against National Curriculum levels.

Success is high for 11+ entry and pupils are supported in their preparation for local grammar school entry. However, many Junior pupils decide to continue their education in Kirkstone’s Senior School.
